SketchUp 2019.2 and above Update Compatibility

SketchUp 2019.2 (M2) was released on July 18, 2019. Since then 2019.3 has been released in October, 2019.

Under normal circumstances, an incremental SketchUp update would have no implications for SU Podium compatibility. However, this release has removed, the previously deprecated C++ API, causing changes to certain API functions that are critical for Podium to operate.

Here's what you need to know:

  1. SU Podium V2.5.908 Win/ Mac is compatible with SketchUp 2019.2 and above. It is a new build and a new installer and requires you to uninstall/ remove previous SU Podium V2.5 for SketchUp 2019 IF you choose to use SketchUp 2019.2 and above. You can download it from here.
  2. SU Podium V2.6 has already been updated to use the new C API. The upshot is that the new API functions are noticeably faster during the "processing scenes" portion of the render.
  3. SU Podium V2.6 was released on July 24, 2019. You can upgrade to SU Podium V2.6 if you wish. Read about what's new in V2.6 and the upgrade prices.
  4. ProWalker GPU - ProWalker GPU has been updated for the new API in SketchUp 2019.2 and above. Unfortunately, these API changes will mean the the end of ProWalker updates for SketchUp 2016. Please read here and download the new version.

SU Podium V2.6 supports the SketchUp 2019.2 and above update. V2.6 will require a small upgrade fee; new features are summarized below:

  1. HDR image-based lighting - New lighting alternative for sun/sky.
  2. HDRI sky/background library in Podium Browser.
  3. Changes to Podium Browser interface and licensing - Podium Browser will now be fully included with Podium V2.6.
  4. Multi-threaded Podium exporter - Processing scenes is faster for large models.
  5. Support for .HDR post-processing in Podium Image Editor.

Additionally, V2.6 will become the active update path, meaning a V2.6 license will be required for future incremental updates.

HDR image-based lighting is a great way to quickly produce different lighting results for a given space, even for interiors! Here's an attic bedroom rendered with two different HDRI skies:
