SU Podium Revision Mockup

What's New in SU Podium for SketchUp

April 2015

Gallery Forum - Images of the Month

This month's featured images come from Gary Petrovski and Matthew Fuhr, who were kind enough to share their excellent work on the Podium Forums:

  1. Matthew Fuhr: Vertical Elementary School Tower :: Matthew posted an extremely impressive set of renders that really covers the full gamut of architectural visualization, including interiors, exteriors, aerial site renders, engineering diagrams, and layout images rendered with the section tool. We've included three images here, but the full set is just fantastic—be sure to check out the Feature Graphics Portfolio to view the project in greater depth!
  2. Gary Petrovski from Archi 3D : "Bedroom + Living Space" :: From Gary Petrovski, we have a bedroom and a warm inviting kitchen and living space. The pair of images are executed perfectly across the board—modeling, material definition, and lighting composition all complement one another with gorgeous results. Thanks for sharing!

We are very excited to announce that the SU Podium V2.5+ update is out of beta and now available in the Cadalog webstore for only $9.95

V2.5+ is the result of months of R&D to implement a switch from Ruby to C++, drastically reducing the time it takes Podium to process SketchUp geometry and export scenes to our ray-tracing engine. What this really means for you, the end user, is that rendering with SU Podium just got a whole lot faster.

Moderately sized models will see impressive speed improvements, but the most significantly advantage is that SU Podium will now be able to process far larger models up to 10 times faster than was possible before the update.

The Lake House (pictured left) contains 768,000 faces and 145 materials. In older versions of Podium, it took Podium 12 minutes to process the scene and parse UV maps. On the same computer, Podium V2.5+ was able to process the model in only 43 seconds.

Other New Features in V2.5 Plus: In addition to the C++ Exporter, V2.5 Plus adds a number of other tools, fixes, and workflow improvements:
  • Improved Depth of Field in Podium Image Editor
  • New Analyse Tools to help flag and troubleshoot problems with your model.
  • Added support for TIFF image files.
  • Integrated fixes for numerous texturing and material issues, including UV distortion, flipped texture files, and "unknown symbol" messages.

Modeled and animated by Andrew Trodler in Podium Walker v1.2.5.

Andrew Trodler completed a beautiful Podium Walker animation this month using the new trees and azaleas that were just added to Podium Browser. We most often see Podium Walker being used for architecture, so it's great to see a bit of landscape design (and a nice reminder that Spring is right around the corner for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere). Click the above image to watch the video, or use this direct link if you're in an older browser.

Reminder - If you have moved to SketchUp 2015, or plan on doing so in the future, please download and install Podium Walker v1.2.5 below:
