4. SU Podium V3 sneak peek - advanced materials

A new feature coming in SU Podium V3 is the "advanced" material types available in the Material user interface. Let's take a quick look at metallic type.

Obtaining very realistic metals in your image, is difficult even with the "best" photon mapping/ GI program around. V3 will have more controls in the Material UI for realistic metallic surface finishes than is available in V2. For non-metallic materials (or should we say surface finishes), the reflection color is the same color as the light. Metallic surfaces are different in that one they should reflect light to be the same as the actual base material (or diffuse) color. The difference might be analogues in the real world as they way a surface may look with bronze paint vs the actual bronze metal. Below is an example. The image on the right is with V3 metallic type. The left side is without.
