3. Podium Browser keeps growing

Over 50% of Nat Ellis' kitchen interior components are from Podium Browser.

A large number of light fixtures were added to Podium Browser in October including new Bega and Yamagiwa wall and ceiling lights. Furthermore, most of the recessed lights were updated to include an auto cut feature so that they can be inserted into ceilings and walls with minimal face trimming. Please watch the recessed light video.

In November we will be adding additional bedroom furniture, 3D curtains, kitchen components including cabinets and other hardware. Podium Browser is still only $59.00 for over 5,500 high quality, render ready components. Read about Podium Browser here.

Podium Browser SketchUp Mac 10.9 Maverick's Safari 7 bug has been fixed. Please read about it here and if you are a Mac 10.9 users you will need to install the fix.

4. LEM "fill" lighting tutorial

Click on the above image to link to the LEM fill lighting tutorial.

Distributing light evenly through out a large and deep interior scene modeled with relatively low ceilings can be tricky. Even using dozens of recessed ceiling lights will not provide enough light evenly. This written tutorial examines how using hidden LEM lights placed between the floor and ceiling can be very effective.

The goal of this tutorial is to boost light levels in low ceiling interior environments like a shopping mall. The light sources that are used are primarily hidden LEMs.

5. Podium Walker four part video series- using Browser and Walker

Podium Walker 1.0.3 has been released. This version supports 64 bit Windows and Mac for both SketchUp 8 and 2013. This means Podium Walker will support as much system memory that is on your PC or Mac. This dramatically changes how large of a SketchUp model Podium Walker can render and animate. Podium Walker 1.0.3 now supports hidden LEM. Below images links to a four part video series that examines the process of modeling a scene with Podium Browser components and then building a photo-realistic animation with Podium Walker.
Read here and download the free trial. Introduction price is $99.00 (USD) Student price is $49.00.

6.Free plug-ins reminder

Free SketchUp plug-ins are available from the Download page on www.suplugins.com.

EditInPlace is a SketchUp utility that allows you to edit groups and components in a separate SketchUp instance. It was free for SU Podium and SU Animate users and now is free for anyone. Read about EditInPlace here.

SUGrid creates a construction grid to snap to in any planar XYX plane. It was included with SU Animate and now is free for anyone. Watch a short video tutorial on SU Grid here.

Windows Only. Cadalog BeamTools is a comprehensive, parametric, table driven library of industry standard C, I, H, L Angles, T sections for SketchUp. It works only in Windows.

OmniGrid is the venerable plug-in for SU Podium V2 or for Podium Walker that allows you to create a grid of point lights above or below a planar surface (SketchUp face). By creating a grid of omni lights Omni Grid creates a relatively even source of light over a wide space. It is best for interior rendering. A superior even source of light is LEM in SU Podium V2.

IFC2SKP for SketchUp 8/ 2013 Beta is a Windows only plug-in for SketchUp 8 and 2013. This application works inside SketchUp Windows (not Mac) and has the ability to load IFC data from BIM (CAD) applications such as ArchiCAD, Revit and Microstation.

7. What's coming in What's New in November and December?

Later in November and December several new tutorial will be released. Two are based on Nat Ellis' interior designs including the below bathroom and the above kitchen images. Each design is first modeled in SketchUp and populated with Podium Browser components and then rendered beautifully using SU Podium V2. The tutorials will examine the modeling, applying materials, adding Browser components, effect use of lighting and V2 presets.

Click on the above image to see a higher resolution.

Also coming before the end of the year is the tutorial on the Preset Editor from Jim Allen and one or two tutorials from John Aikins for Podium Walker.
